Nyungne Retreat - The Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig (Tue, May 31, 2011 6:00 am - Thu, Jun 16, 2011 6:00 am)

May 31 - June 16, 2011

PLEASE NOTE: The registration deadline is May 18, 2011.
Venerable Lama Norlha Rinpoche and the KTC Sangha will be participating in another 8 consecutive sets of Nyungne - the Fasting Ritual and Meditation of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig. This retreat will be held during the auspicious month of Sakadawa, the month commemorating the birth, enlightenment and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha. It is said that, during this time, the merit accumulated through performing virtuous activity is multiplied 100,000 times.

The Nyungne practice is a profound kriya tantra meditation ritual based on loving-kindness and compassion in the form of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig.  The practice involves maintaining strict vows and meditating while reciting mantras and prayers, and performing prostrations and visualizations. Undertaken in sets of two days, the first day includes one vegetarian meal at noon, drinking water throughout the day as needed. The second day is a complete fast performed in noble silence. The Nyungne is renowned as a superior means to purify negative karma and accumulate great merit.

Chenrezig himself declared that completing even one Nyungne prevents rebirth in the lower realms, and the practice of eight consecutive Nyungne leads to birth in Amitabha’s pure land of Dewachen.

Guests are welcome to participate in any or all of the Nyungne sets but please note - it is necessary to arrive at KTC by 8pm the evening before any set as the practice begins as early as 5 am every day throughout the retreat.  The dates for each set are as follows:

Meditation to Change Your Life: Teaching Seminar with Lama Denys Rinpoche (Wed, Jun 22, 2011 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

June 22 - 26, 2011

Lama denys Rinpoche

Lama Denys Rinpoche is one of the main Dharma heirs of the late Vajradhara Kalu Rinpoche (1904-1989). Denys Rinpoche is highly appreciated for the depth and clarity of his teachings. Kagyu Thubten Choling is honored to host him for this special visit of dharma teachings.

Lama Denys first studied medicine and philosophy in France and then spent more than 15 years studying, practicing, and doing retreats under the personal guidance of Kalu Rinpoche. He became an accomplished lama and in 1985 Vajradhara Kalu Rinpoche entrusted him as Vajracarya and lineage holder. Since then he has been transmitting the Dharma in many countries. He has also directed six cycles of the traditional three-year retreat. The seventh is currently in progress in the French Alps at his main Dharma center, the Karma Ling Institute.

Denys Rinpoche founded the Rimay Sangha, a yogic community that was officially recognized by the French government in 1994, after receiving the blessing of the Kentin Tai Situ Rinpoche. Today the Rimay Sangha is an international community structured as a network of circles of practitioners called “Sangha Lokas”.

The teaching schedule is as follows:

June 22  (Wednesday) at 7 pm | Meditation For Your Daily Life
An evening of meditation instruction and guided meditation that you can use as a tool in your daily life.

June 24 (Friday) at 7pm
