We completed 3 weeks of chanting the Akshobya practice. Subsequent practices for the duration of the 49 days include Red Chenrezig, Dorje Sempa and Amitabha.

Akshobya (Tib. Mitrugpa) is the fifth of the five dhyani or wisdom buddhas, who resides in the eastern direction. His name means “unshakable” or “imperturbable,” and he represents the perfection of patience, the antidote to the emotional poisons, especially anger and aggression. As a bodhisattva still on the path of awakening, he made the following aspirational vow: “Now that I have become a bodhisattva, I will never allow myself to get angry at any living being.”

Akshobya symbolizes the enlightened mind of the buddhas, unchanging dharmata, the true nature of reality. In the Kagyu tradition, Akshobya is often recited for the deceased. More information on Akshobya from the Karmapa’s official website.
