Realizing the Nature of Mind through the Unique Approach of the Vajrayana

A Teaching Seminar and Empowerment with Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche

May 3 - 4, 2019 (Friday & Saturday)

MingyurRinpoche enhanced

Tibetan Buddhist vajrayana is the pursuit of a direct and stable recognition of the nature of reality. Settling the mind and developing insight through meditation are crucial to experiencing the uncontrived nature of mind.  The vajrayana further employs a profound array of techniques such as deity visualization and devotional practices to catalyze and deepen a direct experience of the true nature.

Rinpoche will discuss how these elements of the path fit together and what they mean to our personal practice.

For the last session, Mingyur Rinpoche will bestow the Guru Rinpoche Long Life Empowerment.  Of the hundreds of long life empowerment termas (hidden Dharma treasures) discovered over the past 1300 years, The Long Life Empowerment of Konchok Chidu, is said to confer Guru Rinpoche's most profound blessings for long life and freedom from obstacles.

Refuge is not required for those participating in the empowerment.

Both Chinese and English translation will be provided.

A Biography of Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche

Born in 1975 in the Himalayan border regions between Tibet and Nepal, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche is a much-loved and accomplished meditation master. From a young age, Rinpoche was drawn to a life of contemplation. He entered the traditional three-year retreat at Sherabling Monastery at the age of 13, and became the teacher of the next retreat at the age of 17, a position rarely held by such a young lama.

In addition to extensive training in the meditative and philosophical traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, Mingyur Rinpoche has also had a lifelong interest in Western science and psychology. In 2002, Mingyur Rinpoche and a handful of other long-term meditators were invited to the Waisman Laboratory for Brain Imaging and Behavior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where Richard Davidson, Antoine Lutz, and other scientists examined the effects of meditation on the brains of advanced meditators. The results of this groundbreaking research were reported in many of the world’s most widely read publications, including National Geographic and Time.

Mingyur Rinpoche teaches throughout the world, with centers on five continents. His candid, often humorous accounts of his own personal difficulties have endeared him to thousands of students around the world. His best-selling book, The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness, debuted on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into over twenty languages.
In early June, 2011, Mingyur Rinpoche walked out of his monastery in Bodhgaya, India and began a “wandering retreat” through the Himalayas and the plains of India that lasted four and a half years. His new book about that experience, In Love with the World: A Monk's Journey Through the Bardos of Living and Dying, will be released on May 7, 2019.
