February 28, 2010 (Sunday)
We will be chanting the Buddha Shakyamuni prayer in honor of the full moon of the Month of the Buddha's Miracles, Chotrul Duchen, when, for fifteen days, the Buddha displayed miracles. Following immediately afterwards we will be offering a Sür (the evening fire offering ceremony). Sür is an offering to the 4 guests: the Buddhas & Bodhisattvas; Protectors; sentient beings; and those with whom we have karmic debts. It averts obstacles and sickness and is dedicated to those who are dying, beings in the Bardo, and to beings with whom we have karmic debts.
Please join us for the chanting and/or sponsoring the chanting. On this very auspicious day your merit will be multiplied 10 million times, which happens only 4 times per year.
1:00 pm | Chanting of the Buddha Shakyamuni Prayer followed by Sür, Evening Fire Offering Ceremony

Teaching Series on Stages of the Path for the Three Kinds of Beings (by Taranatha) |
|
|
|
March 14 and April 18, 2010
Lama Norlha Rinpoche will continue with his ongoing series of teachings from Stages of the Path for the Three Kinds of Beings. This text is an essential guide to Buddhist meditation, composed by the prolific Tibetan scholar and practitioner Taranatha. In the tradition of Atisha, Taranatha expounds a graduated approach to cognitive and meditative development according to three types of person: the person of lesser, average and greater capacity.
Wisdom is the realization of the selfless nature of mind and phenomena. Lama Norlha Rinpoche will be teaching on the Perfection of Wisdom from the chapter detailing how to analyze our dualistic assumptions and contemplate the truth of selflessness.
Sundays, 1:30 pm | Teaching Series on Stages of the Path for the Three Kinds of Beings
Seminar fees: $25 Non-members | $20 Members per session
Fees do not include charges for meals or accommodations. Please arrive 20 minutes early to allow for registration.
Reservations (1 week in advance) are required if you plan to join us for meals and/or need overnight accommodations. Please see General Information about Events at KTC below for details.

Amitabha Chanting for Liberating the Deceased and Benefiting Beings |
|
|
|
April 10-11, 2010
Kagyu Thubten Chöling will be making prayers and offerings for our parents, ancestors, and the deceased, performing 2 days of practice including the offering of 1000 butterlamps, a special recitation of the Amitabha sadhana with tsok offerings, a fire puja for the deceased, and aspiration prayers for the well being of us and all other beings, especially those to whom we dedicate the practice by name, both living and deceased.
The practice entitled 'Jangchok' will be included within the chanting of the Amitabha sadhana. Jangchok is done for the benefit of the recently deceased to achieve liberation. For persons who may have passed away a long time ago the Jangchok practice will still bring great blessings to the deceased and create the causes and conditions for the liberation of the person. For the living, it is said that once their karmic debtors are liberated through this practice, the person will have less obstacles. For all beings, this practice will help to create favorable conditions and enhance their well-being.
Lama Norlha Rinpoche has said that, "no matter how long ago your deceased dear ones or relatives have passed away, it is still very vital to make prayers and offerings for them to increase their merit."
You may donate any amount and provide us with the names for dedication (both living and deceased). To make these dedications, download the Amitabha Sadhana Dedication Form in English or Chinese.
April 10, Saturday
8:45 am | A Tong Chö (1,000 offerings) will be offered. 10:00 am | Monlam Choga (Prayers of Auspiciousness) Chanting of the Monlam Choga (Prayers of Auspiciousness) compiled by Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche.
April 11, Sunday
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm | Chanting of Long Amitabha Sadhana with Tsok, Jangchok Sadhana, and Sür (special fire offering ceremony) During the chanting of the Long Amitabha and Jangchok sadhanas Lama Norlha Rinpoche will bless and burn all the names of the deceased.
